There are many ways to get rid of unwanted hair. How do you decide on the method, salon, or home procedures, and choose the right equipment to avoid regretting lost time and money?

Professional Hair Removal in Salons and at Home: Different Perspectives

There are many types of epilators for personal use. Additionally, at home, you can perform hair removal using hot wax and sugar paste. So why do beauty salons insist that their services are better? Let’s explore in this article.

Hair Removal Techniques

First, let’s talk about sugaring (hair removal with sugar paste) and waxing (hair removal with hot wax). These are fairly complex procedures that require knowledge of the technique.
Otherwise, you could burn or damage the skin. This not only looks bad but is also very painful. Therefore, sugaring and waxing specialists pay attention to pain relief during the procedure.

Painless Laser Hair RemovalSpecial Equipment

Another advantage of salon procedures is the need for special equipment. Wax and sugar paste are melted using wax heaters that control the temperature, which is difficult to manage at home. The temperature of the mass used to remove hair must be maintained for a certain time.
We will discuss professional photo and laser equipment used for hair removal in more detail later.

Time Efficiency

A salon procedure takes much less time since the specialist has everything “at hand.” They quickly handle large skin areas or areas that are hard to reach on your own. Additionally, when the body is in a horizontal position under the lamp light, every single hair is visible.

Cleanup After the Procedure

This is another advantage of salons that you might not have considered. After your hair removal procedure, you can immediately go about your business. At home, you need to wash towels, constantly look for new sheets, clean dishes after wax or sugar paste, and tidy up tools and devices (if it’s an electric epilator).

Home Hair Removal: Advantages

The benefits of home hair removal include using all materials, tools, and supplies only for yourself. The use of epilators, tools, and materials by others is excluded.
Salons use disposable supplies to adhere to sanitary norms, including towels, sheets, wipes, gowns, slippers, and tools. For salon specialists, there are disposable items such as caps, gloves, aprons, and masks. This ensures that clients are in a sterile environment, receiving a sense of comfort and care.

Another benefit of performing hair removal at home is independence from time, transportation, and the schedule of the specialist. However, it will require time for cleaning and possibly finding a way to be alone, without distractions from family members or children.

Thirdly, at home, you are not embarrassed, if that’s a concern for you. But believe me, for the specialist, your body is no different from others they see every day in large numbers. Additionally, professionals enjoy providing smooth skin and receiving gratitude for their work.

Painless DepilationTypes of Epilators

Several types of epilators are used for hair removal.

Electric Epilators

Electric epilators have high processing speed due to rotating discs with mini-tweezers that quickly pull out several hairs at once. However, the procedure is very painful. Some models have massage features that slightly dull the “pain.” The material of the tweezers varies: stainless steel ones hold the hair poorly, while ceramic tweezers grip the hair better.

Photo Epilators

Household epilators designed for individual use are often called laser epilators online, but they are actually photo epilators. These devices work with a xenon lamp, which is periodically replaced in professional setups. Portable devices have a limited number of flashes (lamp life).
Photo epilation with such a device is either ineffective or not effective at all because the hair follicle responsible for hair growth is not completely destroyed.

The reasons include the uneven penetration of thermal impulse light – to varying depths and not always reaching the hair bulb. Cheap, non-professional devices avoid high power to prevent skin injury, resulting in no significant results.

Regarding professional photo equipment used in beauty salons and medicine: these installations are excellent for treating pigmentation, couperose, and are effective for skin photo-rejuvenation. However, they are ineffective for hair removal. The reduction in growth effect was achieved by partially damaging the follicle, which slows hair growth but does not prevent it. Over time, hair regrows.

Additionally, photo epilators do not work on all skin types and the procedure is very painful. For light hair, multiple sessions are needed because light pigment requires extended exposure, meaning more sessions and higher costs.

This is why laser devices have become popular for unwanted hair removal.

Painless Laser Hair RemovalLaser Epilators: Differences

Laser hair removal in beauty salons and aesthetic medicine clinics is performed using professional laser machines. The laser destroys the hair follicle due to its effect on the melanin in the hair.
There are several types of laser devices: ruby, diode, alexandrite, and Nd
. Hair removal with lasers started with the ruby device.

  • The ruby laser with a wavelength of 694 nm absorbed melanin well but was completely useless for light hair and did not work on tanned and dark skin. The procedures were very painful, making “how to alleviate the pain of the epilation procedure” a major concern for specialists and clients. Ruby devices are no longer used.
  • The Nd:YAG laser with a maximum optical beam wavelength of 1064 nm penetrates the deepest layers. It excellently removes subcutaneous vessels but is ineffective for hair removal.
  • The diode laser generates a beam with a wavelength of 810-820 nm and has a minimal pulse duration, which is not always sufficient for destroying the follicle without overheating. It is used for all skin types, including Indonesian and African American.
  • The alexandrite laser with a wavelength of 755 nm is minimally absorbed by hemoglobin and maximally by melanin. This laser is used for hair removal on all skin phototypes. An additional tip made of special material allows cooling of the skin, enhancing the effectiveness of the beam and eliminating the risk of overheating during the procedure. With this laser, women discovered that painless epilation is possible.

Unfortunately, a professional laser device that ensures painless hair removal cannot come “to your home.”
Laser machines used to destroy hair follicles are expensive and require regular maintenance. Salons guarantee results after a completed course. By setting specific parameters for skin tone and hair color, the specialist can remove even very fine and light hairs. Single hairs that were in the resting phase during the course and may regrow are removed during maintenance sessions. For perfect skin smoothness, you will need to schedule an appointment once a year to maintain the effect of perfectly smooth legs, face, or other body parts.

Painless Epilation with Motus AX LaserPainless Epilation with Motus AX Laser: How Is It Achieved?

There are many myths about laser hair removal. We have collected the most common ones in a separate article: “11 Myths about laser hair removal.”
However, with LaserVille salon equipment, you can be completely confident in the painlessness of the procedure: the MOTUS AX laser combines all the best features of previous generations of similar devices.

  • Firstly, the sapphire tip of the MOTUS AX laser, which comes into contact with the body, is cooled to 15 degrees. This prevents overheating of the skin and therefore eliminates pain.
  • Secondly, the laser has individual settings for power and pulse frequency. These settings are most effective for each combination of skin and hair color – providing the highest intensity of impact on the hair follicle without risking skin burns.

Additional advantages of the MOTUS AX laser include the patented MOVEO technology (dynamic epilation). This method allows for rapid laser hair removal. In just 10-25 seconds, an area of 10×10 cm is treated. Speed is achieved due to the minimal pulse duration – 0.25-300 ms and high pulse repetition frequency – up to 1.5 Hz.
In addition to these benefits, the dynamic MOTUS AX laser helps remove ingrown hairs that often appear after other types of hair removal and depilation. Furthermore, there is no need to avoid the sun for 2-3 weeks as with previous generations of lasers.

As you can see, there are plenty of hair removal methods and devices. Each has its drawbacks. But the safest course for your skin is definitely with a professional laser device.
