The laser beam penetrates up to 4 mm deep, targeting the pigment (melanin), heating, and destroying the hair follicle. As a result, the hair shaft falls out and does not grow back.

What about hair growth phases?

Continuous hair growth is ensured by several stages:

1. During the anagen phase, the root cells rapidly divide, forming the hair shaft.
2. Catagen is a brief stage at the end of anagen when the hair bulb forms, blood supply is cut off, and the follicle transitions to the telogen phase.
3. In the telogen phase, the hair follicle “rests.”

The duration of these phases varies for hair in different body areas. For example, hair on the head grows actively for 2-7 years, while eyebrow hair only lasts 4 weeks.

“Why these details, and how is this related to epilation?” you might ask.

This information helps the specialist determine the timing for follow-up procedures. It also explains why you can’t remove all hair in one session: hair grows continuously, and each follicle has its own life cycle.

How hair falls out after laser epilation

It is proven that melanin production in the follicle is highest during the anagen phase. Therefore, the laser targets hair in the active phase, while dormant follicles are not affected by heating.
So, what happens during your first visit?

Immediately after the procedure, the hair does not fall out because the destruction of the follicle only stops nourishment. Without nutrients, the hair “dies.” This process takes an average of 10-20 days.

During this time, the hair gradually moves out, so it might seem like it’s growing. In reality, it is being “pushed out” to fall off.
